I did this on a Mercury Mariner, but it will also apply to a Ford Escape, and should be similar for any Ford vehicle with a Duratec 4cyl. The video is linked, but below is a written description on how to replace valve. Feel free to comment with any questions!
If you get a check engine light and the code P0455 and/or an error message in the dash to "check your fuel fill" this can be the cause. If you've checked your fuel fill and it's not dirty, or have cleaned it and are still getting this message, the purge control valve is the most logical next step. I replaced the valve in 2018, and the car has been fine since. The check engine light went away, along with the error message. For such a quick job, I suggest doing this yourself before diving in any further.
I purchased a genuine FoMoCo part from Amazon. If you want to do the same, think about using my Amazon Associate link and I'll earn a small commission from your purchase! https://amzn.to/40KqcBX
You'll fine the valve located between the intake manifold and throttle body at the front of the engine. Using a screw driver, remove the electrical plug from the valve. Next, you want to remove the vacuum line going to the top of the valve. Now remove the two 8mm bolts that hold the valve on. Once the bolts are off, pull the valve straight out to remove it. There is an o-ring on the valve, so there will be some resistance to getting it out. Installation of the new valve is the opposite of removal.
Hope this helps, thanks for checking out this write up!
