so despite the billion problems I've had with MAM, I refuse to pay over $20 for some little metal rods bent in the proper shape. So I ordered some this morning from MAM. I ordered the ones they say are different than the ones for the retaining ring. I tried to use the other ones to test assemble the bucket, lens, and chrome ring, and it was impossible to get all the clips in so I'm pretty sure the need for 2 different types is justified. They'll probably arrive just in time for me to be able to finish sanding and repainting the buckets. Considering all the questions I've had with these lights, I'll be posting an in-depth DIY for reassembly and such.

Megan saw a car on her way home with the color she wants. She said as soon as she saw it she knew. She then was so enamored as to come home and search for a photo of the car. It just so happens to be on a bug. She's looking at the fuschia car, second in. I think it will look beautiful. Maybe would have a small flake or pearl to it just for a tad extra effect.

buckets should get some paint tonight. Little more sanding first. Had some miscommunication with MAM, so it'll be the beginning of next week before I can reassemble and install the guys. In that time some more work will hit the GLI, mostly just polishing the wheels, but there's a few things for the bug I need to do as well. Here's what I'll try and finish this weekend before the lights go in and I can get someone here to help with the brakes:

Shift rod bushing

Accelerator pedal repair kit

Oil change

Valve adjustment

And maybe I'll throw the bumpers back on...

So I didn't end up getting anything done this weekend. On Saturday morning I went out to start getting work done on both cars and after a quick job in the bay of the GLI I was tossing my toolbox back in the trunk, and like an idiot I shut 2 fingers in my trunk. After 2 days of no sleep from the pain i had to drill a small hole in the fingernail to relieve pressure. The result was amazing and as a result I can finally start doing some work here and there but it'll be a bit before there's major progress. I have finally been able to finish sanding down the lights though it took me a while with the pain. No pics right now but there will be pics of the progress from now to paint. Fed Ex says the rest of the clips will arrive on Thursday. Once they arrive I can rebuild these suckers and get them back in the car so there should be some good pics for Thursday evening

buckets are getting primed right now, almost done. Then a little wet sanding and they should start getting color tonight. I'll have a few pics up tonight and the rest tomorrow once the process is complete. I'm excited to be finishing it up soon, as is the gf.

So got all the primering done. Going to let them cure over night before I sand in the morning. I was hoping to get some color tonight but I'm not going to rush since I need to run to the hardware store and get some better paint for the job anyways. Hopefully by the afternoon I'll be done painting and ready to assemble and can get them in the car before night falls.

Here's the housings all sanded ready for cleaning then primer.

Hit them up with some of this to clean the surface before priming.

One coat of primer. Yea I know I'm painting inside but it was better then going outside considering I woke up to snow.

Final primer coat sprayed
