Thanks guys,

Right now the plan is to repaint and reassemble with MK2 interior and wiring. The new engine is from my 84 gti but since that Rabbit is last on the rebuild list I'll be putting it in the Pick up. 1.9L 8v solid lifter 11.4:1

Been a while but if you check my road trip post you'll see why.

Anyway, I decided that the hole I cut for the fresh air intake looked like crap and was probably going to leak like crazy.

I elected to make a new flange for the intake grill to sit on.

Had to enlarge the existing hole.

If you look past my crappy welds, it turned out pretty good.

Till next time.

I was going to wait until I finished my next step before posting but I think I've discovered something of value that might help other Caddy owners.

I'm in the process of removing the seam sealer and surface rust in the engine bay.

Upon removing the sealer between the passenger tower and the firewall I noticed some water began leaking out. Now this truck has been out of the elements in my garage for 6 months now and hasn't been driven for over a year, so I naturally thought this was strange. Also, this side of the car wasn't showing ANY signs of corrosion whatsoever. Once all of the sealer was removed I discovered a factory drain hole that had been covered up. When I stuck a pick in there I got a steady flow of water for a good minute. Seems the double panel had been holding almost a litre of water for over a year.

I can't see any way for the water to drain into the panel from weather, only from tire splash. I discovered what I think is the location of the water entrance where the vent canister attaches to the inner fender.

I'm installing inner fender guards as soon as MrDave takes them off his Jetta for me..HINT HINT..
