Project: D'rti 7.. - 1982 Rabbit LS

Compliments of n0ftInc

1/22/07

I managed to pick up this beauty though last weekend off of Dave (Zell)..

I made it back from Paw Paw with the beast a-alrighty. It has it's quirks, but has been good to me so far..well, until tonight that is.

Over the course of the week, she's gotten a few presents..

Just had to pick up these rollers from GAS..thanks Joe!

Started to test out what they'd look like "did"..I know the color's off, and the finish is blah..but bear with me for now.

Now it's just a debate between the two..hmm.

Oh, and got a big phatty for her birfday..

..ahh, seriously.

Belt was just replaced 20,000 miles ago..

8/24/08

..got the rabbit back the other week and tucked it in.

..hadn't touched it till today; got the head off. Looks like cylinder 2 took the most valve damage. Going to start sourcing parts and try and get this thing on the road again..eventually.

Eventually begins today..

Pulled the 'ol girl out of the rabbithole she's been sitting in since last July..I'm sure my neighbors are stoked!

As you can see, the tires have seen better days, so I ordered some and they came in last week..165 series should love the mpgizzles.

Current status:

5/2/09

It was a sluggish start today, but I got into it..

Look ma, no mo engine!

..looks like this little guy got hungry.

Ready for some machine shop action!

..now time to degrease myself.

5/28/09

Got the block down to C-Tech on Tuesday..they're super busy right now, so it may be a little while till I get that back. Also got a fresh 11mm head on the way, since mine was in pretty poor condition. They found two cracks which I can believe was the reason the motor was running inconsistent temps towards the end of it's life.

Other then that, UPS came today and dropped off some of the things I'll be needing..

Still got to source the manual rack, oil pump, and clutch kit. Also am thinking about taking the injectors to DIS on 54th street for some service..good idea? Not really sure what they would do..I'll pry give them a call later today to see what's available.

6/23/09

Picked up the head and block from C-Tech this afternoon and got going on putting it together.

Head..so fresh and so clean - clean.

Block..ready for paint.

2000* paint all dry..new block heater installed.

..and where we ended up so far.

Now it's time to put the little list of odd-ball things I forgot together..

6/28/09

Went to town yesterday on the bay..before:

After:

Also got the right rack installed..

Injectors were done on Friday, so I picked them up..

..and installed, along with a new-ish, leak-free pump.

6/29/09

Replaced all the affected bushings that got all distorted and was able to the front end back on the ground. I know there's no motor in in, but it was sitting all gangster high. The coilovers have a little bit of threads left, but opted to pull the helper springs and see where that got me..we'll mess with it some more once it's correctly balanced out.

Also got this yesterday to help me fight the daily driver blues..thanks again ZPA!

7/3/09

Didn't get too much done today on my day off.

Started by degreasing the transmission..ran out of simple green, so took frickin forever to cut through the caked on crap, but turned out pretty good.

Then I busted out the clutch kit and threw it on..then bolted the transmission up.

..got the day off tomorrow, so hopefully I should be able to button it all up..maybe?

7/4/09

..aww snap.

10/16/09

Well the engine myseteriously sealed itself up and have been be-bop'n around my hood in it every once in a while. Made the plunge into getting it legal last night, and into GAS today to get the injection pump timing set. It was then that I was tipped off by a dirty ass scrub from NJ about some MK1 GOLD!

..welll, not really GOLD, but still pretty good.

The deal was made, and another chapter ends in this horrific tale we call d'rti 7.
