TEARIN' OUT THE FREAKING DOUBLE DIN MONSOON !!!!!!!!

So I did my radio this weekend, I know this has been done quite a few times before, but most of the pics from the old threads are not working. Like the removal tool, I dont think I had ever found a pic that worked, just went with what I thought it would look like. I got a pioneer HU, satellite ready. So I also bought the Sirius connect receiver, the kind that works thru the HU, and OEM DIN-blank pocket.

This is what I made to remove the factory HU. I used an old bank of America card. Cut to the size of the HU holes then cut the pieces on the diagonal, more than 45 degrees. See pic. You need 4 of these.

This is what Im working with, 04.5 GLI, monsoon, taking my old ghetto Sirius receiver out. Using my nifty removal tools, jam em in all the way, you should here/feel a click or pressure; the angled side should face in.

Remove the harness by pushing in the clip in on the bottom of the connector, and then swing the clip slide/hold out.

Now that I got that out, I wanted to make sure I had the right harness. I have always got my harnesses from circuit city. I wanted to solder it to make it bulletproof. For those who have never soldered, it's not hard, or that expensive. I couldnt find my old iron, so a 45 watt iron, solder, and heat shrink tubing was 12 bucks.

I stuffed the Sirius receiver under the dash.

So this is all of the needed wires run thru the hole, ready for a HU.

It looks like my dash threw-up. 

I found out the hard way that when using an a/m HU, if you just wire the harness directly to the car harness, your radio will not turn on/off when starting/stopping the car. As we all know the factory HU can be turned on without a key in the ignition. So, long story short, I had to find a remote 12 volt source that would turn the new HU on/off when I started the car.

I found a remote on the hazard light harness and ran a piggyback wire to my HU harness.

So I have the pocket in and ready to roll. I found the best way to get the wires to fit was to stuff the main harness connectors (HUGE) under the plastic "tray", on the drivers side. Made it a lot easier. I had to modify the tabs on my new HU mount so they would grab the inside of the dash.
