This video is for installation of the Sigma 5 short throw on a mk4 VW. That being said, the installation is very similar for the Sigma 6, and any generations after mk4. Check out the video, or keep reading if you prefer written instructions. Remember, don't hesitate to comment here or the youtube video if you've got any questions!

These instructions start once you've removed the air box. I don't cover removing everything in your way to get to the shifter!

1) Start by disconnecting the shifter cable ends from the cable itself. You do this by pulling back on the spring loaded ends, and turning them to lock them into place off the cable. *You don't want to lock the shifter tower or shifter in the car when you're taking things apart because you don't want to break it.*
2) Remove the slide clips that hold the cable ends to the transmission. At this point the shifter cable ends will be able to be removed.
3) Remove the clip that holds the shifter relay to the transmission and counterweight. Once that's removed, you can slide it out. I suggest replacing the plastic guide bushing while you're here - Diesel Geek sells a nice nylon replacement.
4) Using your 13mm socket, remove the nut that holds the counter weight to the top of the transmission. You can discard the nut as you get a new one. Use caution when removing the counter weight from the transmission so you don't damage the splines on the shaft. If you damage the splines, you have to replace the whole gear selector shaft out of the transmission.
5) Remove the plastic bushing that's inside the channel where the shifter relay sits. Diesel Geek supplies a new one.
6) I found it easiest to install the end onto the cable first, and then line up the splines on the transmission side. There is a black mark where you line up the new short throw to the splines on the shaft coming out of the transmission.
7) The second one can be a bit more tricky because you're lining up the shifter cable end, shifter guide, and the relay mounting point. It's a pretty tight fit, but just keep wiggling and working it into place. It will fit!
8) Re-install the small retaining clip onto the relay side
9) Re-install the nut that holds the shifter to the top of the transmission
10) Lock the shifter inside the car before tightening the cable ends!
11) Using the 3/8 wrench and 14mm allen, tighten the cable ends down. Start with 2 on each end, and then check your gears. Cycle through all your gears, and if they all engage, tighten down the rest.

With that, your install should be complete! Enjoy your new short, crisp shifts!
