Speedtech X-Cellerator 63mm Quiet Exhaust System Review

Compliments of Mikelly @ www.renntrack.com

So let me set this up for you guys so you really get a full understanding of my situation:

I've owned this car for 37 months. In that time I've had a total of 5, that is F-I-V-E exhaust systems on this car. I used to be a studio recording engineer, as well as a musician. I've got a very sensetive ear when it comes to street going cars. Race and track only cars can have as much noise as they want. They're supposed to. But street cars that are doing some double duty? They need some civility for my personal taste.

So the car had a modified OEM system on it when I bought it, and the system was horrid. It vibrated the interior, my teeth's fillings, and gave me a headache... Before I really knew any better, I ended up buying a fabspeed 2nd gen system, only a slight bit quieter than the gutted oem system. Then I struck a deal with John at Speedtech (formerly DGI). His initial system was a 70MM setup that really was a nice "twin can" system with 200cell cats. The system was "livable" when we started with the system. It was actually a nice balance at first. Then over the season of tracking during 2008, the car ran during some very hot days and apparently that "seasoned" the system, opening it up, and creating a LOT more drone and buzz in the cabin.

After I made the decision to lay off tracking for all of 2009 (didn't last), We bought a take-off system from Suncoast and installed it. Ah, yes... Perfect! No noise. No drone....But no power. I had to detune my wonderful UMW setup to make the engine happy with all the restrictions... So now this season I'm planning to track this car again, and we needed to free up the system so the motor could breath.

Enter Speedtech's newest system... The Xcellerator, which uses an X-pipe within the muffler, as well as twin 100 cell cats. The system is made in the USA, all well made, and fit and finish is top shelf. It's also about 30# lighter than the stock system.

So far the system is sounded pretty good, and the drone is minimal. The cellphone "open speaker" and "standalone bluetooth" tests all passed with flying colors. After about 300 miles of driving this weekend, so far, so good!!
