Gauge panel install
Compliments of Banned wagon @ http://forums.vwvortex.com
So I have had these gauges in a box in my garage for the last 10 years. I pulled them from a MK1 cabby, but didnt ge the senders. I have no radio in my car so i got a Din gauge panel form 42 Draft Designs
So the install is pretty straight forward for most of it 5 wires
Brown= ground
Gray with blue stripe= dashlights
Black=12V+ switched
Blue with yellow= oil pressure
Green with Black= oil temperature
So I don't yet have any of the senders yet. but i have determined what i need and have ordered them.
10 bar is about 145psi So i orderd a 150PSI Oil Pressure Sender M10x1
300F Oil Temp Sender M10x1
once get the senders. i will update this, as I am thinking that getting them to fit in may take a few more bits. I am planing on putting a T on the back of the head for the new oil pressure sender and the stock oil pressure switch.
M10x1 Male T Adaptor
not sure if the same T will work for the oil temperature sender as it looks a little longer. I plan on the oil temp sender to mount on the oil filter flange.
I ordered the VW mk3 Triple Gauge Panel
The T adapter is 7 bucks.
Also made a lower panel from the stock panel from the MK1 cabby.
the panel and shown gauge are for a different car and project all together
a few more pics
For the Fox I cubby you need something slighly bigger then the standered DIN size ($16 din panel)
for the lower panel I cut and sanded the MK1 cabby center console till it fit in the opening. or you can just get a FoxII center console(only seen in gray but you can paint it )
Got to the shipment from 42 Draft finished up the rest of the install.
I decided to tap the oil filter flange for the oil temp sender.
10mx1 tap and 23/64 drill bit (didn't have a 9mm bit)
all cleaned up ready to go in
used the brass T on the water temp sender
I am using the dual sender/ pressure switch on the head. the values on the pressure switch are close but not the same. shouldn't be a problem on the Fox. (in newer car will throw a code and check engine light some times)
Now for the fun part the coolant temp gauge install
Pull the canter vents, one screw on the top
pull the lighter out
cut out the hole used a die grinder
wired up. just taped to the power, ground and dash light . from the lighter plug
all done
