for 1979, The Chrysler Newport was 900 pounds lighter and 9 inches shorter than the 1978 model year. It was Chrysler's new size full size car to go head to head with the Chevy Caprice and Ford LTD. Hall Linden from the TV Show Barney Miller was the spokes person for Chrysler. It technically was a good launch with 60,904 cars sold, a 100% increase over the 1978 sales year. But quality problems (mostly minor but irritating) hurt future sales. this car only had three model years of production.
