Well I have some great news!


I discovered that "Cobb Spec" injectors means that the injector latency is matched to the OEM WRX injectors! From the rough idle, I initially suspected injector latency, but moved on to worrying about the possibility of a bad injector. I decided to take the car for a spin in it's current state. I have disconnected my EBCS system, plumbing the IWG back into the boost line so that I run wastegate pressure (7 PSI). Here's the good news: the car and turbo are in great shape! After 1 mile, the ECU must have learned the fuel curve since the idle evened out and the back-fires ceased. I hit a boost pressure of 6.9 PSI at approx. 3800 RPM so I am hitting wastegate pressure no problem. Finally, no smoke out of the exhaust whatsoever, meaning that the turbo seals are in good shape. For the first time I am looking forward to my tune on Saturday!

The tune left both Hill at Agile Auto and myself a little puzzled. From the dyno tune Hill was only able to extract 285 whp and 255wtq from the car. After backing off the tune to allow for a safety margin, my final numbers are 275whp and 250wtq. This is on a Dynapack which does read high. While Hill admits that cars today were dynoing low due to the 95 degree heat in the shop and the near-100% humidity, he is puzzled as to why the car isn't putting out closer to 300whp. He claims to expect 18G 2L to put down approx. 305whp in the summer and 315-320whp in the winter. This may be due to my own stupidity as (in a moment of thoughtlessness) I added Seafoam to my gasoline last week in an attempt to "clean" the new injectors. I used approx. 1/2 of a tank of gas before my tune before filling up to dilute the concentration of Seafoam. Hill admits that he has no idea what effect Seafoam has on the flash-point of Gasoline. The car has no issues with making boost, as I was tuned at 21 PSI.


I am not a numbers guy, and in all honesty am not disappointed by 275whp, even if that number does not change. However, I had some issues upon leaving the shop during my commute home. I found that in some circumstances, my car would SERIOUSLY over-boost. Accessport read my car hitting 24 PSI at one point, which I conclude is absolutely dangerous for the motor. At other times, my car would struggle to hit 18 PSI. It seems as though the boost control is not correct. I am currently in discussion with Hill regarding this issue.
