Got some work done on it this weekend. I received the BC springs/retainers so wanted to start getting those installed while I wait for the cams to arrive from Japan.

First opened up the valve covers:

I measured my valve clearances with the stock cams still in place any everything was within spec.

Pulled the stock cams out:

Everything looks nice and clean.

I decided to use compressed air to keep the valves in place. I bought the Toyotool and had no issue removing the stock retainers/keepers. I bought a cheap set of valve stem pliers off ebay and they worked great to pull the valve stem seals off. I went with the GSC valve stem seals for replacements. All 24 are identical as far as I can tell so I guess with these there are is no intake vs. exhaust seals.

Installing the BC springs was another story. I struggled with the fist valve before getting in locked in. I'm a skinny guy and just couldn't get the BC springs compressed far enough. I couldn't get the second valve done so I just put the stock spring back on and called it a night.

After reading up on the forums a bit I saw some recommendations to make a "T" handle for the toyotool. So I got some 1" PVC pipe and made this handle:

With this handle and me climbing into the engine bay I was able to get a total of 7 springs done so far. The handle makes a huge difference and I was able to get the springs installed without a major issue, it is hard but possible to get them snapped in.

Since I will be replacing the injectors I went ahead and pulled the upper intake manifold:

This will give me more room to get to the intake valves as well.
