The Ferrari 550 Maranello was launched at the Nürburgring in 1996, It was Ferrari’s answer to those who believed the performance of a front-engined V12 car could not beat that of a mid-engined sports car. The successor to the Ferrari F512M, It was quicker and, thanks to its better front-engine layout, much more practical which quickly led to it becoming an iconic model and highly desirable.
The Ferrari 550 is the last of the 100% stick-shift V12 Ferrari. Ferrari did make manual versions of other models, for example the Ferrari 575M, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and the Ferrari 599 GTB.
