Old master cylinder…had crud in the reservoir.

New master cylinder…

Yesterday was my birthday and I took off work to just wrench on the jeep. That's kind of like my spa day but instead of getting clean and relaxed, you get dirty and achy at the end of the day but the mental cleansing is the key.

I installed my new brake master cylinder to replace my OEM one. The reservoir was cracked due to heat and dry rot. It also clearly had a leak at some point but never got to the point of a drip. I bench bled it with the awful kit that came with it and got brake fluid every where.

Next I took the winch off and pulled the power cables out to put new lugs on it with my crimpers.

I also took my bumper off to get access to the steering box. My PSC box comes in today. I determined my OEM box was not rebuildable after striking gold and having it run in a small stream of glitter out the hose fittings on the box.

I also took my rear springs off so I can put my RE 1.5" SOA ones in.

I also removed my rear driveshaft to freshen up the u-joints and put a new centering ball yoke in. I replaced mine on the trail in Moab with one that was old and dried out but still had the needle bearings.

One more bit of good news is I determined the 8.8 pinion flange pinion nut was loose, not a bad bearing. So I need to figure out how to get it to stay.

Here is the spare rear driveshaft. They are stretched to match what full droop looks like. So the spare will work…as a spare.

I just need a flange adapter now.

I learned why the dude was selling it now. The yoke on the slip joint was Beaten so bad the snap ring groove closed up. I plan to get a dremel and grind a groove back in it. For $30, I can't even buy a u-joint so I will make it work or get it repaired.

New PSC steering box came in Friday…

I got a Parts Mike relocation brackets years ago. I did have an OEM bracket but it's long gone.

That's what I'll do, just flip the bolt. Never had an interference issue with my OEM box, but this one has a bigger bore.

Got my rebuild kit today.

Got my rear springs on and I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought they would be really tall but it seems reasonable and they will settle. Just need to do the front now and rebuild my rear driveshaft.

I got three springs on until I got to the drivers side. The holes were just too wallered out and oblong. The 9/16" bolt moves way too much. Luckily I have a spare spring hanger ready to go on…I just need to cut the old one off and weld new on.

The side shot is deceiving because the hole is pretty large but the other hole mask it.

Rear driveshaft has new spicer u-joints.

I just need a flange adapter for my spare.

My jeep is still sitting at my house house but I hope to move back in soon and put my last leaf spring and hanger on.

I figured I should put up an update. I moved back into my house after 6 months of living elsewhere due to water damage back in July. I've been back in since right before the new year and it's great being back in my own home. With that said, I take about an hour to cut and grind on the jeep. I'm still working on getting my driver front spring hanger cut all the way off so I can weld on my new one. I have the new one from years back replacing another. I forgot how much of a pain in the *** it is to cut the old spring hangers off. Once I get it back on, I can put my last new RE SOA spring on, put my rear driveshaft in, bleed the brakes and get it on the road a little. Once I get it back driving I need to park it again and get another engine to replace my oh so very tired 4.0. I found some on FB marketplace for less than $1k but I do want it to be a new one and even better would be a Golem but that's in the $6k range.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do. Its hard to justify the stroker given how much I actually drive it, but it sure would be nice to have when I do take it out. I'll try to get a pic later today of my "progress".

Also...Go Dawgs!

Not only did my home state get a World Series, my alma mater won the national championship as well.

Carmel should be fun, I just want to relax and I think she does too. We actually went up the west coast to Napa 11 years ago when we got engaged. We were younger and a little more frugal but now we are in a little better financial situation, so we intend to enjoy ourselves.

Jeep update, I got the old spring hanger off finally. I strategically grinded the welds and got my chisel out and got them off and then used a flap disc to smooth it out. I also took the paint off the new hanger to get ready for welding. I just need to burn it in. Hopefully in the next few days. Pics to come.

Went riding with Greg and Ash and some other fine folks at Table Mesa today.

Upon riding for a bit I found out all my spring u-bolts where finger loose. I need to lengthen my drag link and fill up my PS reservoir. I also puked some engine oil out of the air box opening and onto the frame. I really need a new motor. My new springs performed well and are much more stable. My PSC steering box is tight and I don’t feel like I’m going to fly off the interstate and roll 5 times.

Some other issues: Leaking t-case, need to put an exhaust hanger in somewhere.

Finally, I bought a weboost signal booster for riding out where I don’t get coverage. I went from no bars to 2 and LTE. Pleased with the purchase.

Of course, I have no photos of my jeep on this right ;)
